Background

In-person Meeting Format
Pros and Cons
In-person meetings provide increased personal interaction and networking, allowing for deeper relationship building and fostering a sense of community and camaraderie . Spontaneous interactions, such as "hallway conversations” often lead to new ideas, collaboration and partnerships. In-person gatherings lend themselves to an atmosphere of more energy, engagement, and memorable experiences that a physical environment affords.

Adding a true hybrid component would allow for in-person and virtual attendance. Variations of a hybrid component could work at a lesser cost than a full hybrid event: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kLJnX-TIO19_L27aDQw8aKeHHUnJwMBfrny0-xX0dNs/edit?usp=sharing

The in-person option would incur higher costs due to venue expenses and travel. While all measures are taken to ensure accessibility for in-person attendees, it has limited accessibility and inclusivity for those unable to travel or afford this option. Planning an in-person event is also more labor intensive with regards to organizing.

Adding a full in-person hybrid component is significantly more costly and time-intensive than an in-person event. The ANM Committee (ANMC) would not have the resources to do the organizing for this type of event. It would need to be contracted out to a professional vendor/venue staff that specializes in conducting hybrid events.
In-Person Proposal Information
The Green Parties of Wisconsin and Illinois have submitted a joint proposal to host the 2026 Annual National Meeting in Chicago, IL. They were the only group to submit a proposal after the call for proposals was issued in February, 2025 by the ANMC. The group was asked to provide budget and substantive information on the locations for various dates in July and August. The proposed date for the location is July 23-July 26, 2026 at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

The Proposal outlines all of the details of the proposal, including information on incorporating a hybrid option (links in proposal below).
Virtual Meeting Format
Pros and Cons
Virtual meetings allow for increased accessibility and inclusivity, which makes it easier for people with limited time, financial resources or disabilities to participate. There is lower overhead with regards to costs and overall costs for attendees is reduced since there are no travel expenses and the carbon-footprint is eliminated, making it a more sustainable option. An all virtual with live-streamed event would be similar to past virtual events. States would be encouraged to organize meetups in their own areas, as budgets allow.
The virtual option limits personal interaction and networking, meeting new people, developing new or rekindling past relationships, and holding spontaneous gatherings, which impacts the organic flow of the meeting. Further, technology-related issues such as connectivity, "Zoom Fatigue", and lack of engagement due to multitasking diminish engagement levels.
Virtual Meeting Proposal Information
The GPUS has held the ANM in a virtual format since 2020, as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Straw polls over the past couple of years have indicated many delegates and past participants favor the virtual option primarily due to cost of travel. Others have suggested conducting a hybrid event.go
Proposal Presentation
A presentation is scheduled during the 2025 Virtual ANM on Saturday, August 2 at 3:30pm. The recording will be disseminated before the vote begins.
