Candidate Information

Aly Schmidt, Green Party of Texas
Hello y'all, I am honored to be one of your candidates for Steering Committee.

As co-chair of the Green Party of Texas, I have worked for several years on our state's executive committee, a Green Party leadership board that includes a variety of strong opinions, just like the GPUS Steering Committee. In committee meetings I always strive for fairness, and to give everyone space to fully express their views, whether we happen to agree or not.

One of my main roles in my state party has been recruiting and supporting candidates for office. When I found out our party needed to get a statewide candidate to 2% or better in order to maintain ballot access, I set out to recruit a candidate and manage their campaign -- in 2024 I helped Eddie Espinoza get over 300,000 votes, 2.7% statewide in Texas, which earned our party 10 more years of ballot access.

For the 2026 election cycle, I helped recruit more candidates, and was lead fundraiser for several candidates who needed help raising their filing fee.

My Green Party resume also includes around 2.5 years serving on both the Fundraising Committee and the ANM Committee. Currently I am co-chair of the Merchandise Committee. That experience would give me insights in helping the Steering Committee in those areas.

Where possible, I would like to share my skills and experience with fundraising, volunteer recruitment and coordination, and candidate recruitment and support with GPUS. But, I also want to acknowledge that the Steering Committee is an administrative body, and I understand the role involves reading emails, attending lengthy meetings, and joining discussions as the group of 9 seeks to achieve consensus on sometimes contentious matters, work that I am willing and able to do.

While political activism in the Green Party isn't always easy, I feel very deeply that this party is the best option we have to save people, planet, and peace, and I want nothing more than to help the party achieve sustainability and success.

Kalia Fitzgerald, North Carolina Green Party
I’m deeply grateful for the trust this party has already placed in me. Since joining the North Carolina Green Party in 2022, IĀ’ve had the privilege of learning from so many dedicated members. I currently serve as Co-chair of the NCGP Black Caucus, on the NCGP Coordinating Committee, and on the Candidate Endorsement Committee.

In my time in leadership, I’ve focused on the nuts and bolts of effective organizing. I’’ve worked to put standard operating procedures in place for every position, because no one should step into a role without the tools and knowledge to succeed. This leads to more effective turnovers and the ability to pass on the torch of knowledge.

As Campaign Manager for Michael Dublin’s congressional campaigns, I’ve organized phone banking, community/mutual aid events, and virtual town halls. This cycle, we’re building more onā€‘theā€‘ground engagement. It's my firm belief that candidates should leave their constituents with something to build, win or lose. True public servants leave a community impact that last longer than an election cycle. I plan to bring that belief, win or lose, to the SC.

I also host Green Party Tea on YouTube, Sundays at 6pm. My show is dedicated entirely to the Green Party and our candidates. I’m so thankful for everyone who watches, shares, and shows up.

My service on GPUS committees such as the ANMC, National Media Committee, and Dispute Resolution Committee has given me a good look into the needs at the national level. I've seen this community grow, even with growing pains. I've seen the burnout that a lot of people talk about however, I can assure you that I'm up to the challenge. I appreciate the mentors who have guided me and given me confidence.

I accepted this nomination because IĀ’m ready to give back. If elected as a Steering Committee Co-chair, I will use this time wisely to be more productive and be a voice of reason. As this is a 1 year term, I would take this as a learning experience that can be shared to others so more people will be willing to step up.
