Background

Let's add transparency, a key principle of good democracy, to the National Committee by adding a table to the National Committee Voting History web page which shows when each delegate and alternate last voted.

As National Committee delegates and alternates work to revitalize our party by forming working groups and caucuses, or by simply campaigning for votes in National Committee elections, it is essential to know who on the National Committee is an active member, and who has dropped out. The National Committee delegates directory has 282 listings, yet in recent years many National Committee elections have gotten only around 75 votes, out of a possible 150. Anecdotal evidence suggests many delegates and alternates are no longer active, but there is currently no clear way to verify that.

This proposal adds a simple table to the National Committee Voting History page which is informational only. This proposal doesn't give consequences for not voting. Delegates, alternates, caucuses, and state parties may act upon the information as they see fit.

Proposal

National Committee Voting History webpage update:

On the History page of the voting website: https://secure.gpus.org/cgi-bin/vote/votinghistory

Rename the current table “Full Voting History”

Add a new table above it called “Current Delegate and Alternate Voting History”

“Current Delegate and Alternate Voting History” to have the columns: Delegation, Status, Name, Votes, Date Joined, Most Recent Vote (date). Under Status, only current Delegates and Alternates would be listed. The data would be sorted by Most Recent Vote (newest to oldest), then Delegation, then Name.

Resources

A web developer would need to revise the Voting History webpage. David Doonan suggested Ajay Rai from the Green Party of California as a trustworthy developer capable of this project, or a different developer could be selected at the discretion of the Steering Committee.
