Background

The 2026 Green Party Budget suggests we must explore new fundraising models as soon as possible to achieve sustainability for the party.

This proposal would establish a working group to examine the technical and practical considerations of starting individual dues for GPUS membership.

Proposal

The Steering Committee will empower a Dues Research working group to research technical, practical, and fundraising considerations for starting an individual dues model for GPUS membership.

This working group will be charged with:

Examine the membership dues systems used by state parties and caucuses.
Examine the membership dues systems of organizations like DSA, The Sierra Club, the ASPCA, the Green Party of the UK, and more
Consider pros and cons of various dues methods
Prepare a recommendation and findings report for how GPUS should proceed in relation to dues by no later than 90 days after passage of the proposal to include:
- Comparison sheet of reviewed options
Implementation plan for instituting results of findings
- A draft National Committee proposal for potential sponsorship by committees, state parties, and/or caucuses

This ad-hoc working group would be open to any interested NC members, alternates, observers, state party officers, or Green Party activists/volunteers recommended/vetted by working group members with input from Steering Committee members, as needed. If volunteers are available/willing, at least one Finance Committee member and one Fundraising Committee member will be included.

Plan is to be implemented upon approval. No financial resources needed, only volunteer labor.
