Background

Proposal #223, Creation of National Green Party House and Senatorial campaign committees, was adopted by the GPUS National Committee on 6/19/06. Green Senate Campaign Committee and Green House Campaign Committee bylaws were adopted as part of Proposal 346: http://gp.org/cgi-bin/vote/propdetail?pid=346

Calls for nominations were announced in December, 2009, with the nominating period extended through January, 2010. This proposal hereby presents the candidates that have been nominated for a one-week review and discussion, followed by a one-week ranked choice vote.

Each candidate may submit a 250-word statement to the GNC making the case for electing her or him to the committee.

Preferred qualifications: Candidates should have previous experience in working on federal campaigns and on working on GPUS committees.

This election is to fill all seven seats on the Green Senate Campaign Committee, per GHCC bylaws. The following candidates have been nominated and have accepted those nominations:

Matt Lavery (NY)
Ann Link (NY)
Gloria Mattera (NY)
David McCorquodale (DE)
Lou Novak (MI)

Gloria Mattera is a current member of the Senatorial Campaign Committee, while Matt, David, Ann and Lou are current members of the House Campaign Committee. Both the Senate and House Committees have been meeting jointly and working cooperatively for the last year. Due to small numbers and a perceived lack of interest, we determined that it would be wise to place more of our energy, efforts, and volunteers (i.e. committee members) on the Senate Campaign Committee, which is already FEC recognized, already has a Treasury and Treasurer (currently David McCorquodale), and can legally raise and distribute money to both House and Senate candidates.
