Background

On January 12 and 14, 2011, Julie Jacobson, Craig Thorsen and Mike Feinstein, the latter two being subject to recall, resigned from their Co-chair positions on the GPUS Steering Committee.

The Steering Committee confirmed the resignations on January 23, 2011, and agreed to call for an online election to fill the vacancies for the unexpired terms, as specified in GPUS Bylaws and Rules & Procedures.

There is one Co-chair position whose term ends the summer of 2011, and two positions whose terms will end the summer of 2012. This vote is to fill the two positions that expire in 2012.

Nominees are invited to include a candidate bio or statement, which will be linked to this ranked choice vote. Please rank your choices in order of your preference. NOTA (None Of the Above) and write-ins are permitted.

GPUS Bylaws
ARTICLE VI. SELECTION, ELECTION, AND REMOVAL OF OFFICERS
...

B. Vacancies

Any vacancy in the offices of co-chair, treasurer or secretary shall
cause the SC to call for an on line election to be held immediately
upon confirmation of the vacancy, to be completed within six weeks of
the call for election, with a nomination period of three weeks to be
followed by a two- week discussion period and a one-week vote.

GPUS Rules & Procedures
7. PREFERENCE VOTING RULES FOR STEERING COMMITTEE ELECTIONS
....

E. FILLING A VACANCY:

Any vacancy that occurs within one month of an election shall be
filled by interim appointment by recounting the ballots from the
election which elected that member, by an Election Tabulation
Committee designated by the GNC experiencing the vacancy, in the
manner specified herein, except that the vacating member's name shall
be deleted from all ballots. Any candidate accruing sufficient votes
to surpass the winning threshold in the recount that was not elected
to office in the original count shall fill the vacancy. If such a
recount fails to resolve a vacancy or if the vacancy occurs more than
one month after the election, the Steering Committee may provide for a
special election under these rules to fill the seat until the next
regularly scheduled election for that position.
