Background

Proposal #330, adopted on January 6, 2008, established the creation of the Green Party Presidential Nominating Convention Credentials Committee. In general, any properly vetted Green Party member can serve who will be attending the 2016 PNC, except Steering Committee members. No more than two members can be from the same state.

For the 2016 Presidential nominating cycle, the members of the committee shall be elected in a single election to be called and conducted by the Steering Committee.

Candidate Information

Alternate, North Carolina

I intend to attend the Presidential Nominating Convention and to participate in meetings of the Credentials Committee, including those meetings of the Credentials Committee held during and at the venue of the Presidential Nominating Convention.

I am a member of the North Carolina Green Party and an alternate delegate to the GPUS National Committee. I believe the Green Party's independence from the Democratic and Republican Parties is imperative to our growth and sustainability and belong to a group that is organized around that imperative, and I am eager for the Greens to run the strongest presidential campaign possible in 2016 no matter which candidates are chosen by the two major parties.

I have served previously on the Credentials Committee before the 2008 and 2012 GPUS Presidential Nominating Conventions and am familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the committee.

In those last two cycles, I also served as the webmaster for the web page of the Credentials Committee and created the charts that we used to track state party and caucus compliance with the criteria needed for those parties and caucuses to be credentials, as well as worked with our GPUS webmaster David Doonan to create the forms for states and caucuses to fill out and submit their information.

Furthermore, I was a member of our GPUS bylaws committee - the BRPP - when it drafted and successfully sponsored the GPUS Presidential Convention Rules that govern the credentialing process.

Therefore I have a good understanding of what is required in the process and the deadlines by which information needs to be reported and decisions made.

Finally as required by the rules governing the Credentials Committee, I hereby declare in writing my intention to attend the Presidential Nominating Convention and to participate in meetings of the Credentials Committee, including those meetings of the Credentials Committee held during and at the venue of the Presidential Nominating Convention.

If you chose to elect me to the Credentials Committee, you will guarantee that at least one member will have deep institutional memory of what is required, something that can be of benefit to those serving on the committee the first time.

My goal in 2016, just as it was in 2008 and 2012, is to make sure that the process is clear, fair and transparent, that states and caucuses are accredited in a timely manner, that disputes are addressed fairly according to the rules for this process approved by the National Committee, and that the Convention receives a timely and accurate credentials report for its approval, as required under our Convention Rules. I am also willing to again take a lead role in ensuring all needed information regarding the credentialing process in 2016 is published in a clear and accessible manner on our web page, and is communicated to the National Committee.
