Background

Steering Committee co-chair Karen Young stepped down after the end of January, leaving one seat vacant on the SC. The nomination period opened January 25 and ran for three weeks. Two nominees have accepted their nominations during that time.

This position will be up for election again this summer, when Karen's term would have ended.

Candidate Information

David McCorquodale
Here is my background in activism and in the Green Party:

In the late 1960s to early 1970s, I was active in SDS at the University of Delaware. That led me to become one of the editors of the local Òunderground paperÓ which many years later was archived in the Library of Congress. Leaving the university, I was active in an anti-draft organization, in opposition to the occupation of Wilmington by the National Guard (longest in the country after MLKÕs assassination), and in the grape boycott supporting grape workers, among other things. I left activism after the Weather UndergroundÕs disastrous activities as well as the attraction of people with whom I had been working to WorkerÕs World Party.

For the next three plus decades, I was a working stiff in the U.S.Postal Service. My wife and I raised three children. But I always kept my eye on the political world and keep looking for another political awakening.

Opposition to the run-up to the invasion of Iraq was that awakening. In fact, demonstrations and opposition in the street were much larger than during the Vietnam War, but that time the media did all it could to minimize the opposition. Even though I had voted for Nader in 2000 and saw him speak in Delaware, I had not been aware of the Green Party as an organization until 2003. In 2003 I attended a couple of anti-war rallies and found local members of the Green Party. I realized that in the Ten Key Values, this was what I had been searching for most of my adult life.

Positons helds in the Green Party:

Green Party of Delaware Treasurer, 2004 - 2012
Treasurer, Berg for Congress, 2004-5
National Delegate (or Alternate) for GPDE, 2004 to present.
Current Chair, Coordinating Committee, GPDE 2014 to present.

Member and Cochair, Green Pages, 2005 to present
Treasurer, Green Senate Campaign Committee, 2008 - 2011
Clerk, Credentials Committee. 2012 (and on current committee)
Member, Bylaws, Rules, Policies and Procedures Committee, about four years to present.

Election Campaign - 21s State Representative District, Delaware. Received 19% against Republican incumbent, a historic high percentage for any Green running in Delaware.

Aside from Green Party activity, I am an avid runner and marathoner. I believe it is important for Greens individually to do something for physical fitness, a tenet of Personal and Global Responsibility.

Paul Pipkin
