Background

The Coordinated Campaign Committee (CCC) consists of 10 members, an equal number of males and females, and is a standing committee of the GPUS that cooperates with state and local chapters in the support of federal, state, and local Green Party electoral campaigns through a variety of different programs and support functions.

CCC members are elected for two-year terms in two elections, one to elect males and one to elect females, with the goal of having 5 men and 5 women on the committee. No state or caucus may have more than one member serving on the CCC at any time.

Erin Fox
Summarize your past experience with elections and campaigns.

Currently, I serve as Co-chair of the Coordinated Campaign Committee of the Green Party of the United States. During my time on the Coordinated Campaign Committee, I have trained Greens at in-person campaign schools in Newark, Florida and Ohio and have been in contact with many of our campaigns over the course of my term.

Over the years, I’ve managed campaigns for seat holders but specialize in strategy for insurgent, anti-establishment candidates. It has been my privilege to advise dozens of political candidates over the course of my career. I’ve managed a winning Congressional primary election and I understand what it takes to run large, effective campaigns.

I am a former legislative aide to the Assistant Leader of the Michigan House of representatives. My duties included constituent services, research, formally enrolling bills and working with the Legislative Services Bureau on draft legislation.

To date, I’ve done work for several issues-based organizations including MoveOn.Org. I was MC of that organization’s National Leadership Training in 2010, as well as a trainer during the conference. In addition, I was privileged to be one of a handful of organizers nationwide to be honored with an award for excellence in leadership by that organization.

My experience includes labor organizing. I’ve done internal elections organizing for SEIU, including organizing members for the Kaiser Permanante NLRB election in California, where I did field work in Silicon Valley, Oakland and San Francisco.

I’ve been privileged to work with labor groups in Wisconsin on recall elections, recruiting union volunteers for the effort and conducting exit polling. My political organizing on social media has been extensive, having been a key administrator of one of the largest political groups on Facebook. I am well-networked with Greens and Progressives nationally.

I have 20+ years of management and administrative experience, including a business with 125 employees and $2M yearly cash flow, in addition to other relevant experience.

Explain your interest in the Coordinated Campaign Committee.

As a sitting Co-chair, I am deeply devoted to the mission of the committee. I believe that this committee does significant work that is critical to the success of the party. Therefore, I take my role very seriously.

I care about people. My goal is to use my energy, skills and privilege to help limit oppression, reduce suffering in our society and to protect and nurture the resources the Earth affords us. I am a social ecologist, a communalist and a municipalist who believes that we all have a responsibility to adhere to and promote the values of the Green Party in order to protect our environment, realize social justice, end violence and promote democracy. As such, I offer my skills, talents and experience with the sincere hope they have been and will continue to be of service in realizing the mission and goals of the committee.

Identify specific contributions you think you could make to the work of the CCC.

Over the last year, I feel that my expertise, energy and innovation have been helpful in steering the committee. I want to expand upon this experience over the course of the next term and put what I’ve learned to work. A detailed report from Co-chair Holly Hart and I is forthcoming. This report will provide a retrospective view of the recent activities of the Coordinated Campaign Committee. Further, the committee is in the process of drafting it’s own strategic plan that shall align with the strategic plan set forth by the Steering Committee and address the implementation and execution of Coordinated Campaign Committee-specific functions. Thus far, this action-oriented plan is comprehensive and intended address all of the functions of the committee.

Currently, I am advocating for an expansion of the annual call for candidates, making the initiative more than a press release that is passed along, but instead, an actual 3 month marketing campaign with substantial outreach to registered Greens and Green Party members. Recruitment of candidates for 2019 and 2020 should be at the top of the agenda at every level of the Green Party between now and April 2019.

I would like to see increased security in the assets of the Coordinated Campaign
Committee, including off-lining and password protection of strategic training resources.

We can improve the presentation of our training materials and that this would be a key factor in attracting better candidates. In addition, I see a need to increase training of candidates and locals at party-building while campaigning, a topic that the Coordinated Campaign Committee has recently worked on and could expand upon in the future.

Many Greens know that I am passionate about increasing our capacity for voter outreach and would like to work with states to increase the ability of state parties to effectively target and identify voters.

I am advocating for the immediate establishment of a database of voter files and commencement of the collection of voter data. This is an area where the opposition has a strong competitive advantage. We must curb that advantage by beginning data collection and storage in the near term.

Finally, instead of hosting a candidate’s training school, I am proposing that the CCC conduct a “Campaign University” in 2019 that is used as a “Train-the-trainer” session so states can plan their own statewide campaign schools for 2020 with trained staff and have access to the tools necessary for a successful effort. All states would be encouraged to have a representative at this event, which may be standalone or regional.

With further specificity, I believe that my ideas, such as the Green Wave Telethon, which raised funds that were awarded to Green candidates, my energy and my commitment will continue to steer this committee toward progress for our candidates, their campaigns and our party.

How would your participation in this committee further the Green Party's commitments to feminism, racial justice, and diversity?

Our mission is to elect candidates to public office who hold Green values and support Green Party policies. As such, I will steer the Coordinated Campaign Committee to work with with state and local parties to develop candidate recruiting programs that recruit women, persons of color and other politically oppressed populations to become empowered and run for office with the Green Party.

In addition to encouraging programs to increase candidate diversity, it is imperative that we instruct campaigns to correctly target female voters, LGBT voters, persons of color, the disabled and specifically, low-income populations, along with other politically repressed groups. These populations must be targeted to register with the state as Green Party voters, for recruitment as volunteers, for membership in the Green Party, for financial support and for their votes.

Further than recruitment and voter outreach, we must also ensure that our candidates are effective at crafting and executing successful messaging campaigns in politically oppressed communities. The Coordinated Campaign Committee can develop focused training on targeting and messaging for politically oppressed populations that will ensure candidates are well-prepared to field questions from the media or voters about Green policy. We must advocate to our candidates to emphasize feminism, racial justice and diversity in their messaging and to provide resources that reinforce our member’s candidates abilities to effectively
communicate such messaging.

In the event that I am retained, I will make all of the above a priority for the Coordinated Campaign Committee to address and implement.
