Background

From the 2004 Racism Watch website:

Are you ready for the 2004 election campaigns? Ready for, perhaps, an updated version of the (in)famous Willie Horton ad? Or candidates debating whos going to put away more people into newly built, privatized prisons? Or how about attacks on affirmative action, people of Arab descent, or immigrants, often working for less than the minimum wage?

2004 Racism Watch is an effort to get organized and prepared for similar developments this year. 2004 can be the year that we make visible an explicitly multi-cultural network of activists who understand the obligation to confront racism whenever and wherever we find it. We can put those who use racism for divisive and destructive ends on the defensive and help to get better candidates elected.

Racism watch plans to interview candidates, asking ten questions, to determine candidates positions on several major issues, such as reform of the criminal justice system or making major changes in the so-called war on drugs. These results will be widely distributed for use at the local level in connection with voter registration and mobilization campaigns. The ten questions are here.

The Green Party of the United States has an opportunity to join this effort by becoming an endorser of this project.

Proposal
