Background

Owing to the COVID-19 crisis, the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) has decided to hold a virtual presidential nominating convention on July 11,
2020 - instead of a face-to-face convention as originally conceived. The late change of format condensed many of our traditional timelines.

The addition of this statement to our current Convention Rules will protect the Green Party in case of any vacant positions within two weeks of the convention.
The amendment will sunset after the 2020 convention.

Proposal

Add the following to Article V of the Convention Rules:
5-1.3 If in the two weeks preceding the Presidential Nominating Convention, there is a vacancy as relates to the conduct of these convention rules, the
Steering Committee will be empowered to appoint a member or alternate of the National Committee to fill any vacancies in roles or committees. The appointment
will require a 2/3rds affirmative vote of steering committee members and will not require National Committee confirmation.
