Background

There has been a fraught relationship between the GPUS and the Federation of American Green Parties (FPVA) for some time now. These tensions come from the most powerful parties in FPVA having a right wing orientation. Some of these parties support the death penalty and oppose LGBTQ+ rights such as the Ecologist Green Party in Mexico and others like the Domincan Green Party are so right wing they support a Trump style wall along the Haitian border. Our delegates attempted to organize with other parties to get new leadership and reform the FPVA. FPVA has revoked GPUS’s voting privileges and downgraded our party to observer status. This was done the day before an election for the FPVA executive council. During the vote there was an even split in Brazil’s delegates. Despite Brazil’s deadlock the executive council recorded their vote in favor of revoking our full membership status. Brazil’s vote was the deciding vote against GPUS and fraudulent. At this time our FPVA delegates unanimously favor leaving the FPVA with the support of several former delegates.

Proposal

The National Committee shall approve that GPUS immediately withdraw from the Federation of American Green Parties.

Resources

The Steering Committee shall send a letter to the FPVA informing them of our withdrawal upon the passage of this proposal.
