Proposal

Amend Chapter III, Section M. Ocean Protection, to make the following changes:

III.M.9

Current Language: Ban drift-net fishing and long-line fishing and phase out factory trawling.

Revised Language: Ban drift-net fishing and long-line fishing as these methods entangle whales and other sea life. Phase out factory trawling which decimates coral reefs and other oceanic ecosystems. Ban the importation of fish and fish products from countries that use drift-nets and other illegal means.

Proposal:

III.M.X

Added Language: Require ropeless fishing gear when taking any species of fish for commercial or recreational purposes in any trap fishery, including, but not limited to: Dungeness crab, spiny lobster, and spot prawn.

Proposal:

III.M.X

Added Language: Ban the practice of fish farming as these methods require vast amounts of antibiotics, which if leached into nearby waterways pose a danger to the health and well-being of wildlife and humans. Ban the importation of fish grown on fish farms.

Proposal:

III.M.11

Removed Language: Ban the importation of fish and fish products caught by drift-nets and other illegal means.
