Background

There is a crisis of unaffordable childcare (aka daycare) in the US that creates economic hardship for many families and prevents many people from being able to work or get an education because they cannot afford childcare. This amendment would update the existing language of increasing funding with a guarantee of childcare/daycare as a human right.

Proposal

Amend Chapter II Social Justice, Section E. Education and the Arts, plank d, by replacing the current text:

"Increase funding for after-school and daycare programs."

with the following new text:

"Increase funding for after-school programs and establish a system of universal childcare/daycare that is guaranteed as a human right to all families with children."

Resources

Approval of this proposal will amend the 2020 GPUS Platform.
