Background

People Vs Fossil Fuels and Food and Water Watch and other organizations are hosting a rally the day leading up to the United Nations Climate Ambition Summit in New York in September.

Stop all federal approvals for new fossil fuel projects. This includes repealing permits for climate bombs like the Willow project and Alaska

Phase out fossil fuel production on our public lands and waters. We need to transition to clean energy, and this means ending our reliance on fossil fuels.

Declare a climate emergency. This will allow us to take bold action to address the climate crisis.

Lead a just transition to clean community-centered energy at home. This means creating jobs in the clean energy sector and ensuring that everyone benefits from the transition to a clean energy economy.

These goals align with the Green Party of the US's values, which are to protect the environment, promote social justice and equal opportunity, decentralization, personal & global responsibility, and especially future focus and sustainability.

It's important to remember that the United Nations has already declared that planned fossil fuel production through 2030 is double the amount believed to be compatible with keeping warming to the 1.5 C rise. This means that we need to take urgent action to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

The Biden administration has recently given the green light to more new fossil fuel projects than did the government of former president Trump. This is a concerning development, and it's important to hold the administration accountable for its actions.

We need to demand that the Biden administration stop approving new fossil fuel projects and start phasing out fossil fuel production on our public lands and waters. We also need to declare a climate emergency and lead a just transition to clean community-centered energy at home.

The EcoAction Committee of the GPUS will put out media statements and action alerts to mobilize people. At least three states of Local Greens have prepared for a Green contingent to march on the 17th together at the U.N.

The future of our planet depends on it.

Proposal

The EcoAction Committee of the GPUS will put out media statements and action alerts to mobilize people.

The EcoAction committee of the GPUS strongly advises the Green Party to sign on as an organizational endorser to support the March to End Fossil Fuels on September 17, 2023. Via this document link
