Background

The Assembly of Movements of the World Social Forum
in January 2005 - called for international demonstrations on climate change,
to coincide with the Climate Conference (First 'Meeting of Parties' to the
Kyoto Protocol) in Montreal, November 28th to December 9th, 2005. The USGP
will join with the European Green Party http://www.eurogreens.org and Green
Party of England and Wales http://www.greenparty.org.uk which are formally
working on this action.

Proposal

That the USGP support the call for international demonstrations -that is
demonstrations on the same day in as many countries around the world as
possible -on Saturday 3rd December 2005, timed to coincide with the 'MOP'
Climate Talks (28th November to 9th December) in Montreal.

These demonstrations will demand that the USA and Australia ratify the Kyoto
Protocol immediately, and that the entire world community move as rapidly as
possible to a stronger emissions reductions treaty that will be both
equitable and effective in stabilizing 'greenhouse' gases and preventing
dangerous climate change.

Further the USGP will join the mobilization to collect 500,000 signatures on
the petition titled The Citizenšs Ratification of the Kyoto Treaty. The
petitions will be presented at the MOP Climate Talks on December 03, 2005.

Finally, the USGP will add its name to the list of organizations supporting
the call. The list is maintained at

Resources

There are no budgetary implications for the national party.
Volunteer support for synchronous demonstrations in US as needed as project
develops. The USGP is being represented by Lorna Salzman and Julia
Willebrand at the Climate Crisis coalition which is the main US coalition
sponsoring the action.
