Background

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:

The National Committee has approved updating the Green Party of the United States Platform during every two years, during even-numbered years. This proposal stipulates that National Committee delegates will approve or disapprove the revised platform by online voting starting immediately following the Annual National Meeting. The National Committee Vote Page will be employed, following the established procedure for such voting. The voting will be done individually for each section being altered. The sections will constitute separate proposals, each with its own identification number.

This proposal does not alter the traditional method for approving the platform at the Presidential Nominating Convention other than voting for the platform in sections rather than for the document as a whole. Presidential Nominating Convention delegates will vote during the convention on paper ballots.

Proposal

PROPOSAL:

This language is to be inserted in Article II, Section 2, of the Green Party of the United States Bylaws immediately following the language dealing with the platform approval on the two year cycle and voting for the platform in sections:

“The Green Party National Committee delegates shall approve or disapprove the proposed platform in sections by online voting starting immediately following the Annual National Meeting during the years when the platform is being revised at an annual meeting which is not a Presidential Nominating convention. The National Committee Vote Page will be employed, following the established procedure for such voting. The sections being voted on will be listed as separate proposals, each with its own identification number.”
