*FPVA DELEGATE BIO:

Carl Romanelli

As a candidate for FPVA, I am both excited and humbled by the potential opportunity to further the role the USGP plays in the Americas and in the world. Considering the state of the world today, there is no Green Party more important to the world than the Greens in the United States. It has become abundantly clear that any reform in the world will be muted in the absence of a change in policy here in the US. So first, please understand that I do realize the importance of our role on the FPVA. Therefore, I pledge to be attentive and aggressive in furthering our efforts toward peace and justice.

I have been a member of the International Committee since 2003. I have been a Green since the day after Election Day, 2000. Currently I hold the position of Co-chair of the Luzerne County (PA) Green Party, serve as a member of the PA Greens State Committee, am a candidate for the Steering Committee of the PA Greens, and I serve on the GPUS Media Committee (since 2001). In 2005 I had the honor of representing the GPUS at the international summit in Bogota, Colombia regarding the serious issues in that country. In 2006 I was the first Pennsylvania Green nominated for the office of US Senate. As many know that effort was setback by a vast criminal enterprise being run through the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. We have since seen the indictment, entering of guilty pleas, or the conviction of more than a dozen people associated with the PA House. Though the legal matters are still ongoing, and the media seems to be more sympathetic to the convicted Democrats than to the victims of such bullying, we continue to forge ahead to expose such systemic maladies. I believe such an effort show the fortitude I am willing to bring to Green causes and values.

In addition to the service to our party, I am also heavily involved in other organizations working toward some of our issues. For example, I coordinate Northeastern Pennsylvania for Healthcare 4 All PA, the statewide single payer effort here. I have done research for the Dr. Ernie Drucker of the Einstein Institute of Medicine, regarding overdose death and harm reduction. I have served as the Interim Executive Director of PA NORML during 2002 and 2003. Prior to re-entering politics in 2001, I worked for 22 years as an officer of the Luzerne County Family Court. I have also worked as a manger and a business consultant during the past 10 years.

One of the benefits I believe I bring to our efforts is media. Here in Luzerne County we have generated much publicity for Green issues and causes. It has led to much education regarding who we are and what we stand for. Since 2005 I have been a regular guest on an hour-long radio show. The show is aired on some of the highest rated commercial stations in Eastern PA. We have recorded more than 35 hours of content during the past 5 or 6 years, including one in August of 2007 with Cynthia McKinney. This will provide a medium for taking FPVA issues to the public.

Again, I ask for all due consideration from IC members regarding the election of delegates to the Federation. In the event there are questions, or more information is required, please feel free to ask at any time. In solidarity I thank you all again for this nomination and any consideration my dear colleagues may give this candidacy.

Peace
