Background

The loan guarantees advanced by the Obama administration to enable the construction of a new generation of nuclear reactors are an abuse of public resources for private profit, targeting the same sacrifice zones as previous nuclear plant construction and exhibits the same environmental racism in public and private policy making which has so long characterized the nuclear industry.

Proposal

That Platform 2010 of the Green Party of the United States, in Chapter III, related to "Ecological Sustainability", in Section C., related to "Nuclear Issues", is amended by striking paragraph 10., which reads:

10. We oppose public subsidies for nuclear power, including Price-Anderson insurance caps and stranded cost recovery bailouts.

and inserting in its place, the following:

10. We oppose public subsidies for nuclear power, including Price-Anderson insurance caps and stranded cost recovery bailouts. We oppose federal loan guarantees to enable the construction of a new generation of nuclear reactors.
