Background

GPUS National Committee (NC) confirmation of GPUS delegate to the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas (FPVA), elected by the International Committee (IC), March 8, 2013: Julia Willebrand (NY)

Dear All,

My IC Bio

I was NY State GP delegate to both ASGP and GPUSA from 1998 to 2000 and chaired the GPUSA International Committee which I represented at the Worldwide Green meeting in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1999.

I have served as NYS GP member of IC continuously since 2001 am serving my fourth (?.) non-consecutive term as IC Co-chair and my fifth (?) term as an IC delegate to the FPVA.

I was co-president of the FPVA for 5 years, have attended 8 FPVA meetings, 6 or 7 European GP meetings and several global Green meetings. And because I live just 3 miles. from the UN I had the pleasure of hosting many many international Green members of parliament and national GP presidents.

I am ambivalent about even running for FPVA delegate. It is surely time to give others the opportunity to serve. So under ordinary circumstances, I believe I would and should be stepping down from the FPVA delegate position. But these are not ordinary times. The USGP's membership status is being questioned and the FPVA is by our US standards is dysfunctional.

Because I believe there can be great value in the USGP being an active participant in the FPVA and the Global Greens, preserving USGP membership in the Federation is important. And since my institutional memory (I hope) will be an asset in that endeavor, I am running again for delegate.

How to resolve not only the dues aspect of the problems with the FPVA but also the FPVA failure to work together on a Green Americas' initiative will take a lot of "crowd sourcing" ideas. I will try to offer suggestions. However this is a problems I believe will best be remedied when we put our heads together. We need to exchange ideas and information.

Greenly,

Julia
