Background

The following two actions would strengthen our call to protect our forests. They do not change any existing language, but are in addition to the 13 actions listed.

Proposal

The Platform Committee proposes to amend Chapter III, Ecological Sustainability, Part L, Forestry Practices by adding two new subsections 14 and 15 to read:
14. Mandate that all U.S. Government offices use 100% post-consumer waste paper processed chlorine free, and that any new fiber necessary to the process come from alternative sources such as hemp or kenaf. Where recycled paper is inappropriate, such as for archival quality paper, high quality fiber such as hemp should be the primary source.
15. Ban all clearcutting on publicly owned lands and in privately owned Òold-growthÓ forests, and strictly regulate clearcutting in private sector commercial forestry.

Resources

Approval of this proposal will amend the 2016 Draft Platform, to be presented for approval at the 2016 Presidential Nominating Convention.
