Brief bio:
Katija Gruene, fka Kat Swift
bexarkat@gmail.com

I've been an active Green since 1999; founding member of Bexar Co. Green Party; sustaining member and elected officer, off and on since 2001, of Green Party of Texas. Former Spokesperson National Women's Caucus; past and present NC Delegate for TX, and candidate for: PotUS 2008, city council 2007, county commissioner 2010. You can read more about me here.

My resume is up at LinkedIn. My highlights regarding finance are:

Managed accounts payable for two nonprofits simultaneously - ~million-dollar budget, managed receivables and credit accounts at a major news publication, created budgets for those nonprofits, and managed worker benefits at both.

My greatest achievements at these jobs were to maintain affordable and usable healthcare benefits at all three of these businesses when upper management/boards wanted to use these line items as means to cut costs. I succeeded in finding other ways that the boards, managements, and workers approved.

Why do I want to be on the fincom?

I was made aware of the need for a future Treasurer for the party in 2015 in St. Louis, and because of the dearth of willing volunteers and my background in accounting, bookkeeping, etc., I said I would at least join the committee and see if I could be of service.  I understand the importance of maintaining fiscal responsibility without compromising the people, as well as the challenges of doing so. Our current Treasurer has gotten us out of the red after 8 years and we need to maintain this steadfastness
