Background

The reasons to protest both the Democrats and Republicans are legion. In
addition, the 2004 protests are shaping up to be perhaps the largest and
most volatile since 1968. Thousands of groups and concerned citizens from
around the nation and around the world are planning to converge on Boston in
July to protest the Democratic National Convention, and New York City in
late August to protest the Republican National Convention.

The Green Party, as it struggles for its place in American Politics, should
take advantage of this excellent opportunity to have a large and vocal
presence in the streets, offering leadership and guidance to potentially
hundreds of thousands of potential Green voters and members under a large
GPUS banner.

Proposal

The Green Party of the United States, with the Green-Rainbow Party of
Massachusetts and the Green Party of New York City, shall formally sponsor
(and assist with logistics where applicable and send members to
participate?) protests scheduled for the 2004 Democratic National Convention
in Boston, July 26-29, and the 2004 Republican National Convention in New
York, August 29-September 4th, and will approve an ad-hoc organizing
committee including event organizer Charles Shaw & members of the
Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts, and the Green Party of New York City
to be determined later.
