Background

The GPUS Fundraising Committee in conjunction with the Finance and Steering Committee presented and held workshops on GPUS fundraising at the 2006 and 2007 Annual National Meetings aimed at increasing the GNC’s involvement in fundraising. GPUS has not had a noticeable increase in delegate fundraising and has continued to struggle financially without the involvement of the GNC in fundraising. GPUS is currently operating between $20,000 and $30,000 in debt. The 2008 presidential election has required a 59% increase in proposed spending just to meet the basic needs of GPUS. The purpose of this proposal is to involve of the GNC and other Greens in the GPUS fundraising efforts.

Proposal

The Green National Committee (GNC) shall be in recess from Monday March 3, 2008 to Sunday March 30, 2008 (4 weeks). During which time the Steering Committee shall not schedule either discussion or voting on any proposals for GNC consideration unless the proposal is deemed critical to GPUS and time sensitive in such a manor that it could not be postponed until the GNC returns to session.

The GNC shall participate in the 2008 GPUS National Fundraising Drive. The GNC shall recruit additional Greens to participate in the 2008 GPUS National Fundraising Drive.

GPUS Committees shall be encouraged to participate in the 2008 GPUS National Fundraising Drive and shall be encouraged consider a coinciding recess period, if feasible.

All shared funds raised as part of the 2008 GPUS National Fundraising Drive shall be considered GPUS Driven.

TIME LINE: Monday March 3, 2008 to Sunday March 30, 2008

RESOURCES: There will be an increased demand for donor forms, sustainer forms, and Green Party Card forms. There will be an increased demand on the fundraising committee and office staff to track incoming funds and award www.GP.org/shop gift certificates to successful fundraisers. There will be an increased demand for www.GP.org/shop items in the first quarter of the 2008 year. Five weeks of GNC time.
